The Bash for Cash got underway on Friday from Port Rowan, Ont., Canada, featuring the fifth opportunity of the World Long Drive season for competitors to qualify for the 2018 Volvik World Long Drive Championship.
By days’ end, the three individuals punching their ticket to WinStar World Casino and Resort each did so in their home country of Canada. Kevin Blenkhorn, Jeff Gavin and Cody Stout earned exemptions into the World Championship and will make the trip to the Oklahoma / Texas border in less than two months for a chance to claim the coveted championship belt.
“For Long Drive, it’s about consistency,” said Blenkhorn. “I didn’t have it today, but it was enough to secure a spot.”
“It was a struggle today,” said Gavin, currently the No. 21 ranked competitor in the Open Division World Long Drive rankings. “I really had to dig deep to find something, and I capitalized on my opportunity.”
Three additional qualifying spots will be handed out on Saturday, with preliminary qualifying getting underway at 9 a.m. ET.
