Friday’s Day 2 of the WinStar Midwest Slam saw three additional competitors claim their spot into the field at next month’s Volvik World Long Drive Championship. Andrew Fernandes, Taylor Schmidt and Andrew Whitmarsh each punched their ticket back to the very grid they competed on Friday by virtue of finishing in the top-three in the Final Qualifying stage.
Whitmarsh’s 383-yard drive in the fourth set was the longest of the Final Qualifying stage.
Friday evening, the WinStar Midwest Slam Tour event qualifier saw four competitors amongst the field of 16 advance to take part in tomorrow’s Tour event. World Nos. 2 (Will Hogue), 5 (Ryan Steenberg) and 11 (Glenn Wilson Jr.) each advanced through to Saturday, along with Brad Skupaka, who beat out Dwight Riddle for the final spot.
Steenberg matched Whitmarsh’s 383 yard total for the longest of the afternoon.
Saturday’s 36-man field competing in the Tour event gets underway at 8 a.m. (CT).
